Peace of Mind

Scripture:  Don't worry about anything; on the contrary, make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. Then God's shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua. (Philippians 4:6-7 CJB)

Message from the Word: Peace of mind, it’s something that many of us seek and many struggle to find. We are bombarded with so much information today that it can overwhelm our brains. Through TV, the internet, billboards, ipods, ipads, texting, email, our cell phones not to mention all of the everyday situations we go through, it’s no wonder we struggle with having our minds at peace. But Gods word tells us how to have peace – not the kind the world seeks, but peace that is in Christ. Look at our scripture – it tells us not to worry, INSTEAD make our requests known to God. Now that may seem strange since God already knows what we need, but He wants us to come to him with all that is going through our heads by prayer and petition. The Greek word for petition is deesis and means "a wanting, a need, an asking or entreaty”. That means simple go to God and let Him know what you need, tell Him how you need His guidance, His wisdom, His knowledge for all that’s going on in your head. Then, it tells us to be thankful – thankful that He hears our petitions and He will take care of our needs. When we do that, the Word gives us a promise, it says that “God’s shalom (peace) passing all understanding (that means it goes beyond what we could imagine) will keep our hearts and MINDS safe in union with Messiah Yeshua (Jesus). I like how the Complete Jewish Bible says that it keeps our minds safe. The world and the enemy tries to bombard us with so much that it can overwhelm our brains – but when we follow the scripture our minds are kept safe from sensory overload. Where we fail is in taking it all before God and petitioning Him with what’s going on with us. If you’re struggling with having peace of mind – simply follow these steps – go to prayer, petition God, tell Him your wants, your needs, ask Him for His help and then give thanks that He’s going to take care of everything.  Easy as 1-2-3.
